The Ofsted evaluation schedule now gives an increased priority to the inspection of the provision for safeguarding children: if schools perform badly in this area, they are likely to receive a grade of “inadequate” and may be placed in a category of concern. Additionally, changes to the vetting and barring list means that there will be fines of up to £5,000 for schools that knowingly employ individuals on the list or fail to make the relevant checks.
